Chinooks Outdoor 2020 Registration Update

By AGibbs, 06/03/20, 8:30PM MDT

Chinooks Outdoor 2020 Program

All Chinooks members who registered for the Outdoor 2020 season should have received an email from Chinooks today (June 3, 2020) outlining our outdoor 2020 program and asking you to respond by June 10, 2020 on your choice - participate in Outdoor 2020, take a credit or a refund.  Please check your email you used to register, or your junk or other folders for this email from Chinooks.  Your response by June 10 is very important.

As our previous email to you described, we are working on a unique, development focused, player centred, competitive program which includes:

Skills, Technical, and Coordination Training, combined with Dryland Fitness

Depending on age group, from June to October you can anticipate 2 to 4 sessions a week, which will translate to close to 16 weeks worth of on-field training with Chinooks coaches, overseen by our Technical Director Juanma Martinez.  Juanma has been developing the material for the sessions while we have been in quarantine, and we are super excited to be able to deliver a well thought-out, age appropriate, learning and development focused program that all of our Chinooks Club coaches will adopt.

Online Classroom Tactical and Strategy Training

We have leveraged the power of Google Classroom and this makes it feasible for our coaches and Juanma to engage directly with all players in a deeper examination of technical, tactical and strategic aspects of the game.  Challenging players to think beyond their own performance on the field of play, the opportunity to look at real life training and game situations from professional teams, players and coaches, and to examine various aspects of the game and dive deeper into questions that will raise the bar on your on-field, game preparation and mental performance.

Small-sided and Intra-Club Games

As our ability to return to increased competitive activity gets approved, we will be supporting opportunities to play small-sided and intra-club games at Chinooks that will provide players with lots of touches on the ball, increased competitiveness, and to leverage the development we have done in each of the previous program initiatives.

CMSA Cup Competitions.

The Chinooks are committed to competing in all CMSA Cup Competitions that will be offered, and when these activities are approved to move forward, Chinooks teams will be formed to compete against teams from across Calgary.  The Chinooks know that an accurate barometer of the development and growth of a player requires consistent testing in a competitive game-based landscape.  We know that CMSA competition against other Club teams allows players to test what they have been learning and improving on in practice and development sessions with Chinooks against similar competitive athletes.  We anticipate that when we are approved for these activities Chinooks teams will be competing.

Safety and well-being of all players and members

Our commitment to the safety and well-being of all of our players and members is our number one priority. The Chinooks will meet or exceed the standards and protocols required of our member associations, governing bodies and government/health authorities as we resume and operate our activities.  Your understanding, participation and adherence to these standards and protocols is of paramount importance, as we must all do this together in order to move through the transition to normalcy as a team.  As such, there will be requirements of all players and parents to participate - a MANDATORY waiver/consent form to complete from CMSA before participating, a MANDATORY health questionnaire before each activity you participate in, a MANDATORY check-in and check-out process for each activity, and other protocols that will be communicated as we learn what else will be required.  Please work with the Chinooks to ensure we can meet or exceed the standards and protocols, so that we all get through this season as a success.

Program Cost

The program cost for the Outdoor 2020 program is, for most members, your already paid registration fees.  We will NOT be charging additional Academy fees this outdoor.    If you have not paid and want to participate, or are a new player that wishes to join us, please contact Chinooks through our regular online registration or by contacting

Timing and Startup

The specific startup date and timing of when we will begin the Outdoor 2020 program is not yet determined.   There is still work to be done by government, health authorities and soccer governing bodies - and the Chinooks also have to prepare and adjust to the requirements of these groups to operate.  We are getting prepared, and will proceed when we are confident in our readiness and have met all requirements.

The Chinooks are super proud of all of our members.  We know we have an amazing community of players, parents, volunteers, coaches and staff - we hope that you will join us this Outdoor 2020 season in what will most definitely promise to be a remarkable, and we expect more than memorable, outdoor season.
